Granite
GRANITE is a hard rock of volcanic origin and belongs to the group of plutonic rocks, which originates from solidified magma deep in the Earth’s crust. As opposed to this, basalt forms from the rapid cooling of lava exposed at or very near to the surface of the Earth. Thus it appertains to the group of extrusive rocks. Granite is mostly composed of feldspar and quartz, which give it a high range of hardness. It is very resistant to high wear, with superior abrasion resistance and compressive strength. Quartzite
QUARTZITE belongs to the metamorphic rocks. High temperature and pressure ensured that from the porous sandstone emerged a consistent and polishable rock that consists almost entirely of quartz. Pure quartzites are the most weather-resistant rocks that exist. Thanks to its high compressive strength and abrasion resistance, the rock is suitable for floors, facades, and many indoor and outdoor applications. Quartz by
Quartz countertops are engineered stone countertops. We proudly carry a line of Italian quartz from Santamargherita. Santamargherita quartz is crafted from quartz sands and carefully selected resins that undergo intense manufacturing, grading, and polishing process. SM Quartz complies with the strict international standards required for the food industry and safe indoor environments. SM Quartz is ideal for a wide variety of applications from prestigious, large, open, commercial spaces to intimately-detailed, interior design solutions in kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, and more. SM Quartz countertops feature high scratch and chemical resistance, and low water absorption. The kitchen substances of everyday use will not leave surface stains. When compared to other quartz surfaces, our polished finish is exceptionally stain-resistant and does not retain dirt, making it easy to keep clean. Marble
MARBLE is a metamorphic carbonate rock and consists almost entirely of calcite and/or dolostone. It has been transformed by pressure and heat to a full-crystalline rock. Because of its crystalline structure, marble is slightly transparent when cut into thin slabs. Onyx
ONYX consists of colorful calcareous sinter (freshwater calcium carbonate). It is formed near water springs through fine calcium precipitations from spring and seepage water. Onyx is a cryptocrystalline mineral with translucent transparency. This rare material is particularly suitable for backlit objects for interior design and lends an exclusive atmosphere to each room. Soapstone
The rock steatite (also called soapstone) is the material we use for our soapstone countertops, sinks, masonry heaters, flooring, and many other architectural applications. Steatite is composed of several minerals, but the most abundant is talc. Steatite, because of its additives, is harder than talc, and hence suitable for the applications cited above. Soapstone (steatite) in its initial state only comes in shades of gray.
This naturally quarried stone is softer than most other naturally occurring minerals. Although soft, soapstone is a very dense (non-porous) stone; more so than marble, slate, limestone and even granite. Since soapstone is impenetrable, it will not stain, no liquid will permeate its surface. Other stones, including granite, have a propensity to soil; this is why soapstone (steatite) is widely used in chemistry lab countertops and acid rooms.
Limestone & Travertine
LIMESTONE is a sedimentary rock of marine origin and consists almost entirely of the mineral calcite. Dolostone, feldspar, clay minerals, quartz or mica-schist minerals are present in very small quantities. These mineral and organic admixtures let the actually white limestone appear in his numerous coloring. Therefore, the limestone can be reddish, greenish, yellow-brown, dark grey or black. The material is particularly suitable for applications, indoors and partially outdoors.
TRAVERTINE is a member of the limestone family and is a sedimentary rock with a continental origin. Travertine is a mono-mineral rock, i.e. the material consists of only one mineral. Respectively, the primary component is calcite. It can contain also clay minerals, hematite, limonite and quartz. The color of travertine varies according to the contained minerals or organic admixtures as well as from the site. Travertine is frequently yellow, beige to brown, white or grey. Thanks to its low degree of hardness, travertine is easy to process and particularly suitable for indoor applications.
